IN A PICKLE

DEBORAH GITTINS

Deb was educated as a school teacher with a passion for art, music and drama. She did her post graduate in expressive arts and then made a sudden career change by buying a guesthouse at Medlow Bath. Since then Deborah has been immersed in the food and hospitality industry of the Blue Mountains and now beyond.

Just some of her achievements over the last twenty years include the famous Blackheath Thai and Curry nights, fundraising for TEAR Australia with the Third World Café and the operation of her unique catering business "In a Pickle". Her clients have included celebrities such as Jenny Kee and large corporate entities such as Toyota as well as many Blue Mountains families celebrating special occasions.

Combining her love for art, Deb’s motto is that food should have flavour, texture and colour to make any meal a sensational delight. With her fine eye for detail and easygoing approach, she can help plan menus and consult with new businesses on marketing strategies.

Deb created a 12 week training program designed for the hospitality industry. She is a qualified trainer with Certificate IV in Workplace Training and can design specific training programs for industry and business.

Her interest in computers has her designing web sites, taking digital photographs for small business and also liasing with chefs or management to work as a food stylist in putting together menus. This also includes formatting menus and also designing brochures and advertising material.

Deb mentored and trained clients through the NEIS program for nearly three years.

Now with a move to the Central West of NSW, has opened mentoring possilibities and the coordination of Plan-it Youth in local schools.
